DELAND -- Irate parents in Volusia County believe a bus service scammed them out of money.

Megan Reusch, a parent, said her anger and confusion started early Friday morning when the bus service chartered for a field trip never showed up at Woodward Avenue Elementary.

Parents and the school tried to contact the company, Judi's Charter Bus, but no one answered the door or phone calls.

The school got the charter bus information from a Volusia County Schools approved list.

Meanwhile, the company’s proof of insurance with the school district expired in March.

"If anything happened or if there was an accident, and yes, I’m grateful that nothing happened. But that doesn't negate the fact that somebody is not doing their job, and when it comes to my kids, that's not acceptable," said Reusch.

Following our story, Volusia County Schools removed Judi's Charter Bus Service from the approved list on their Web site.

Nancy Wait, a spokesperson for the school district, told News 13 the ultimate responsibility rests with the individual schools who book the charter buses to check and make sure a bus service is approved and their insurance certificate is up to date.
