ORLANDO -- The reputation of one religious group rests on a stack of papers.
It's called the Evangelical Manifesto, and some religious scholars are hoping it will relieve some of the negative stigma related to Evangelical Christianity.
The declaration condemns Christians on the right and the left for using faith issues -- such as abortion and traditional marriage -- in the political arena.
Many veteran Christian activists have publicly stated they do not support the declaration.
But religious leaders here in Orlando are hopeful evangelicals will act on the document.
"It would be nice to think that someone would read through that and see a very finely nuanced description of what it means to be an evangelical Christian and say'yeah, that makes a lot of sense,' or 'I’d like to find out more about it,'" said Pastor Jeffrey Moore from the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
