ORLANDO -- The city has been looking for ways to corral wayward shopping carts in shopping center parking lots.
City Commissioner Phil Diamond has pushed for a city law that would force shopping centers to round up their carts.
The city said aside from being an eyesore, stray carts were also a traffic hazard.
The ordinance would require new stores with more than 20 carts to have cart retention systems.
Older stores would be given time to make the change, but would face fines after the deadline passed.
A similar ordinance stalled two years ago, because those systems can cost between $20,000 and $30,000.
Code Enforcement said they collected between 30 to 40 wayward carts a week.
