WINTER PARK -- Saturday was National Train Day, marking the 139th anniversary of the "Golden Spike," the final spike to complete the first transcontinental railroad in the United States, in 1869.
Celebrations of National Train Day were expected to be held at Amtrak stations throughout the U.S. Saturday.
The celebration in Central Florida was scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Florida Amtrak station in Winter Park.
Last year's figures showed Amtrak set a record for ridership, with 25.8 million people taking to the rails.
