Gas Continues Record-Breaking Rise

Additional Information

The surge in the price of oil continued to push gas prices higher overnight Friday, as AAA found the price of regular gas jumped to a record $3.69 per gallon.

The price at the pump dipped by a couple of cents just a week ago, but prices have increased ever since.

The Energy Department expected prices per gallon to peak at a monthly average of $3.73 in June, though many analysts said the national average prices could rise as high as $4.

Those record prices have had an impact on drivers. A USA Today/Gallup Poll showed Americans were driving less for the first time in nearly three decades.

February was the fourth consecutive month in which miles driven in the U.S. fell. There has not been a similar decline since 1979.
