MELBOURNE -- The Florida Institute of Technology announced plans to grow about 20 percent by the end of 2009.
The school said it was launching seven large building projects, costing a total of some $75 million.
Among the facilities being built would include a new autism center, a textile center, flight center at the Melbourne Airport, and three residence halls.
Florida Tech officials declined to compare the growth to other Florida schools, such as the University of Central Florida, but said it was big.
"We're certainly growing faster than the average university, both in students and physical growth. It's an exciting time," said spokesman Jay Wilson.
Of the projects already under construction, the three residence halls were the closest to being complete.
Much of the remaining work was expected to get under way within three months.
