Pet Cobra Bites Sumter Co. Man

ORLANDO -- A Sumter County man fights for his life after being bitten by a pet cobra.

Investigators said the bite happened at his home on North West Street in Bushnell.

The victim, Jack Hildreth, 50, was flown to Orlando Regional Medical Center because of the severity of the poisoning.

Vials of antivenin were flown to Orlando from Miami Wednesday.

Fish and Wildlife workers said the man does have a permit to own venomous reptiles.

At last report, the man was unconscious and in critical condition.
