VIERA -- New numbers from the University of Central Florida said Brevard County was getting hit harder than anywhere else in Central Florida by the housing slump, but things could be changing.
The study showed Brevard's new home construction was down about 70 percent since 2005, with 2008 at the bottom of the slump.
Housing developer the Viera Company said the housing collapse has already hit bottom, and they were expecting new buyers and builders.
With that in mind, the company has started a billboard blitz along Interstate 95.
Other Brevard realtors News 13 spoke with said they were also seeing a similar uptick.
"It's actually increased over the last couple months. I'm surprised that they're still coming out with reports the housing market's down. We are swamped," said Jason Bucci, a sales manager with Century 21.
The UCF data said a noticeable rise in new home construction could start later in the year.
Construction could pass some 2006 levels in two years, but was not expected to reach 2005 heights anytime soon.
