Taped Cheerleader Beating

Additional Information

NEW YORK -- A gag order did not stop People magazine from publishing a story about the 16-year-old Lakeland girl whose beating was captured on video and posted online. See previous story.

The article, which appears in the April 28, 2008 edition of the magazine, included interviews with victim.

The magazine also interviewed her father and stepmother, as well as relatives and parents of two of the beating suspects.

Magazine representatives said the interview did not violate the gag order issued by a Polk County judge, because the victim did not talk about the beating, instead discussing how her life has changed since the incident.

News 13 is not identifying the victim because of her age.
