PAISLEY -- Dozens of cats were found living in deplorable conditions in Lake County, and now one man is in trouble with the law.
A deputy went to Kurt Brandli's home in Paisley to investigate an animal cruelty complaint.
Brandli claimed he only had one cat and produced the cat for the deputy.
However, the deputy claimed he smelled a strong urine odor about 100 feet from the house.
It turned out Brandli also owned the house next door where the deputy found 30 to 40 cats.
There was trash piled floor to ceiling, with feces and urine on the floors.
The cats were covered in fleas and ticks, and many had upper respiratory infections.
Animal control removed most of the cats from the house.
