APOPKA -- Fire officials are investigating what caused a two-alarm fire to damage part of an Apopka church Saturday afternoon.
The fire started just before 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church on Bear Lake Road. Firefighters from several agencies rushed to the scene.
They believe it started near a playground in the back of the church. Officials said no one was hurt.
"There was some fire that extended through the roof system into the sanctuary from a back building. But the crews did get it out, make a quick stop, limited damage done," said Tim Nicholson from Seminole County Fire Department.
"One of the ladies was saying ‘what kind of message does this send’ and I said ‘I think it’s a message to bring us all closer together,’" said Rex Strickland, a church member.
About 100 people worship at St. Andrew's, and said they will gather for Sunday services, either inside an adjoining building or outside.
