LAKE COUNTY --  A Lake County deputy is hospitalized after being attacked on the job.

The incident unfolded Sunday night on Long Acres Road just north of State Road 46 near Sorrento.

Investigators said Cliff McMennamy, 27, was investigating a noise complaint. When he arrived, one person threw a beer bottle at his car.

Investigators said McMennamy was surrounded by more than a dozen men.

McMennamy used a Taser on one of them, and that's when he was jumped.

"It was in the process of him securing that first subject that the rest of the people connected to this residence actually ambushed him and began beating him. The nature of his injuries lead us to believe he was struck with a beer bottle on the top of the head," said John Herrell, spokesman for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

McMennamy may have a broken jaw and has numerous cuts.

Investigators said three people are now under arrest and facing charges.

Deputies said the area is known for drug activity.

McMennamy has been with the sheriff's office since June 2005.
