Orlando police and residents join in 40 days of prayer

ORLANDO -- A victory celebration in Orange County marked the end of 40 consecutive days of prayer to fight local crime.

Dozens of Central Florida churches partnered with Orlando police for Operation Armor All.

Last fall, Operation Armor All focused on Orlando's Parramore neighborhood. The latest effort concentrated on Pine Hills.

Orlando Police Chief Val Demings said it's part of a strategy to get the community actively involved to take back their neighborhoods.

“I believe it does work because it gives the faith-based community an opportunity to do what they do best, but it also brings the community to partner with law enforcement, and that is our ultimate goal,” said Demings.

The effort could be expanding.

Chief Demings said chaplains with the Orange County Sheriff's Office are interested in partnering up.

Demings said there are also talks of bringing it to communities on Orlando's east side.
