DELAND -- Three 13-year-old DeLand Middle School students are in custody and facing charges for allegedly plotting to shoot classmates and then kill themselves.

Sheriff's investigators took the threats seriously and charged them with conspiracy to commit murder.

The plot came to light last week when one of the teens made threats on his MySpace page, promising to lock the cafeteria doors during lunch and shoot everyone in sight.

A fellow student was so upset after reading the messages, she told a family member, who called the sheriff's office.

News 13 spoke with the older sister of the 13-year-old girl involved who said this was a misunderstanding blown out of proportion.

"She feels bad if she could take it back she would. She's only 13," said the sister.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Authorities said they did speak with all three teens, but are not elaborating on what was said because it is confidential information.
