Additional Information

Dangerous pit bulls will live to see another day, according to a Lake County judge.

The dogs were found last month when investigators broke up an alleged dog fighting ring.

The judge presiding over the case ruled not to have the dogs euthanized yet because it would destroy evidence.

But Lake County Animal Services said the dogs are dangerous and taking up much-needed cage space at the facility, and they're having to euthanize adoptable dogs to accommodate any incoming animals.

"We have dogs that we could adopt that we're having to shuffle through and possibly our cage space that could have been used to hold a little longer that would possibly be adopted has no chance now," said Rene Segraves from Lake County Animal Services.

Animals Services said they euthanize about 12,000 dogs each year. But because these dangerous pit bulls are being held there, that number could increase.
