Two Employees Suspended Following Beef Recall
Friday, February 29, 2008 11:59:17 PM
A union representing federal meat inspectors said the U.S. Department of Agriculture has suspended at least two employees following the largest beef recall in history.
A spokesperson said one inspector and one veterinarian have been placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
A third person may also be suspended, but that hasn't been confirmed.
The USDA recalled 143 million pounds of beef from the Westland/Hallmark Meat Company in California, after the Humane Society released undercover video showing workers shoving sick or crippled cows with forklifts to get them to stand.
