ORLANDO -- The jury that convicted an Orange County of burning his ex-girlfriend alive sentenced him to death Monday.
The jury recommended the death penalty for Dane Abdool by a vote of 10 to 2.
Abdool was found guilty last Wednesday of dousing his girlfriend, Amelia Sookdeo, 17, with gas, then lighting her on fire, because he thought she was pregnant. See the previous story.
Sookdeo turned out not to be pregnant.
Abdool's attorneys had been arguing for life in prison for their client, saying Sookdeo's death was an accident, and that Abdool has personality disorders.
The judge in the case would have the final say on Abdool's sentence.
