ExxonMobil posted the biggest annual and quarterly profits ever by a U.S. Company. (02/01/08)

Exxon Mobil Corp. posted the biggest annual and quarterly profits by a U.S. Company ever Friday -- at $40.6 billion, breaking its own profit records.

The previous record for annual profit was $39.5 billion, which ExxonMobil reported for 2006.

This came just a day after Shell posted record profits for a British company -- at $27.5 billion.

The average gas price per gallon for regular unleaded fuel in Florida was $3.05 as of Friday. Exactly one year ago, that same fuel was $2.19 per gallon.

Some analysts said for every $1 increase in the price of oil, ExxonMobil makes another $500 million a year.
