ORANGE COUNTY -- Sheriffs deputies are hunting for a man who leaped from a moving vehicle while a 2-year-old child was still inside.

Deputies were trying to pull a car over for speeding when the driver decided to run late Monday night.

He eventually abandoned the car near the intersection of Pine Hills and Silver Star roads, but left while the car was still rolling.

"He didn't know where that car was gonna end up, and in the front seat, the kid was not in a car seat and he was not seatbelted in," said Carlos Padilla from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

The child was not hurt and the mother did arrive on the scene.

Authorities are investigating this as an act of child abuse and resisting arrest. The Department of Children and Families has been notified.
