ORLANDO -- Two local women are now on their way to try and break a world record for a good cause.
CarolAnn Garratt of Ocala, and Carol Foy, took off from Orlando International Airport around 8 p.m. Tuesday to fly around the globe.
They are hoping to break a world record for the flight and raise money for ALS, which is also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Both pilots have personal reasons for taking to the skies. A member of Foy's family was recently diagnosed with the disease, while Garratt lost her mother to ALS in 2002.
News 13 spoke with the women about their trip.
"I am so excited about going," Foy said. "I've planned and planned. “We've done our homework, and now it's time to execute it. Part of doing something like this is we both love to fly and so let's go flying!"
"Unfortunately I have a bit of a cold,” Garratt said. “The cold aside, I am a little bit nervous. But I am really ready to get under way."
You can keep track of the flight through a link on the ALS World Flight Web site.
