Additional Information

TAFT -- Churchgoers arrived at the First Baptist Church of Taft Sunday to find their place of worship vandalized.

Obscenities, satanic signs and comments about Adolf Hitler were sprayed all over the church's walls and tables.

The church's piano was also ruined.

Deacon Clevie Valentine said they decided not to hold services Sunday. He said could not understand why anyone would do this.

"We had a good crowd show up and it's pitiful. We had one of the biggest crowds we had in a good while, waiting for church," Valentine said.

Church officials said they hoped to clean up everything for services on Wednesday.

Valentine said he is praying for whoever did this, but he hopes investigators catch them.

"I tell you, it's hard being a Christian, showing our love as we do, and for someone doing this to the church, I don't know. It's pitiful," Valentine said.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office is handling the case. If you have any information, call CrimeLine at (800) 423-TIPS.
