MAITLAND -- An 18-year-old murder suspect is hospitalized with a broken pelvis after leading police on a two county chase that ended with an explosive crash.
The chase ended on Wymore Road after investigators said the car Jeremy Stevens was riding in lost control, flipped over several times and then burst into flames.
Stevens was wanted for killing Maxie Graham, 21, on Nov. 11 after an argument over a girl.
Investigators said they first spotted him Tuesday. Instead of stopping for Seminole County deputies, Stevens ran and started a chase that eventually went into Eatonville and Orange County, before the car flipped over at 80 miles an hour.
Deputies said it was tips from the community that helped bring this whole case to an end.
"The whole reason we have him in custody is because of collaboration with the neighborhood,” said Lt. James Clark from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. “The neighborhood, quite honestly, is just sick of this behavior. Jeremy Stevens represents something very wrong. They didn't tolerate it. They collaborated with us."
Stevens has been charged and will be taken to jail once he is released from the hospital.
Stevens’ 17-year-old cousin was also arrested for allegedly driving the car during the chase.
Another passenger has not been charged.
