DELTONA -- A 4-year-old boy was rushed to a hospital Tuesday after being bitten by a dog at a day care center.
Investigators said Landon Sage was at Ms. Sherri's Childcare on Yellowbird Avenue when the Labrador-pit bull mix bit the child in the head and chest.
Sage was airlifted to Halifax Hospital with serious injuries, but Volusia County Fire Rescue believes he will be OK.
Sherri Watson, the day care's owner, said it was all just a tragic accident, but others said the dog was a known danger.
“Animal control has been here many times because that dog was aggressive,” said Mavis Saviano, a neighbor. “He came after me. He came after my husband. He came after the people over there. He would raise the hair on his back, show his teeth and come at you."
The dog was taken by animal control. The Volusia County Sheriff's Office has ruled that the incident was accidental and Watson will not be charged.
In addition to the Labrador-pit bull, Watson also owns a Chihuahua and a boxer.
Late Tuesday night, News 13 learned the day care has been closed indefinitely after Deltona code enforcement workers found four different violations at the home, including a swimming pool ladder that allowed children direct access to the aboveground pool, a fence in disrepair, and trash and debris on the property.
