MAITLAND -- One person is dead after being hit by a train while walking along the railroad tracks in Maitland.
Authorities identified the victim as a white male, in his early 40s.
They said he had stopped as the train was going by. He did not stop at a place where pedestrians or cars would cross the tracks.
The conductor told Maitland police that it looked as if the man knew the train was coming and that it could have been suicide.
The man was carrying identification, but authorities would not release his identity until his next of kin was notified.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the scene.
Police said the train could cause delays for students leaving school in the area.
