ORLANDO -- City Commissioner Daisy Lynum is in the hot seat over accusations she abused her power.
An Orange County ethics committee is hearing a case surrounding Lynum and her son, Juan. He was pulled over in 2006 for a broken headlight, but then called his mother, alleging racial profiling.
Commissioner Lynum then called the chief of police, who then called the officer.
That officer said he didn't give Juan a ticket because of the call.
However, the commissioner maintains she wasn't trying to get him out of trouble, but instead was concerned for his safety.
“Very afraid,” said Juan Lynum. “He was threatening lethal force before he approached my car. Never in my life had I been threatened like that, with lethal force, with a man with a hand on his gun, ever."
Juan was eventually mailed a ticket.
A ruling is not expected for at least a week.
