MALABAR -- A 150-pound, 4-foot bronze statue has been stolen from its base.
Investigators think it may be used for scrap metal.
The statue belongs to the Berri Patch Preschool on Malabar Road.
The statue has a small boy and girl playing on a ladder, and is very unique.
The Brevard County Sheriff's Office said it would have taken at least two people to take it. Deputies have contacted scrap metal dealers in the area to be on the lookout for it.
The statue has been at the school for six years.
"I didn't even notice it,” said Amanda Smith from the Berri Patch Preschool. “One of the kids asked, 'Who stole the kids outside?'"
"This is where kids come everyday,” said Agent Randy Holliday from the sheriff’s office. “This place is known for this statue. Whenever you talk about the Berri Patch, it's they've got that great statue out front."
Right now, the price for a pound of brass as scrap metal is anywhere from 49 to 82 cents, which means the statue could be worth around $120 as scrap.
