ORLANDO -- The number of calls to get food stamps is up dramatically.
The latest numbers from the Department of Children and Families, which is the governmental agency that handles food stamps, reported their call center got 1.3 million calls in 2007.
This year, the number has doubled.
With the increase in demand, DCF is having a tough time handling all the calls, and many people are having a hard time getting through.
The agency said this week an outside team has come in to look at the matter. They also have implemented a new Web-based system, which is similar to online banking, so that you can track your application.
To apply for food stamps, visit ACCESS Florida’s Web site or call (866) 762-2237.
