People in one small beachside town in Brevard County are waging war against a popular drugstore.
Signs protesting Walgreens have popped up all over Melbourne Beach, along with signs, T-shirts, and a stopwalgreens.com Web site.
Protesters said there are few, if any, chain stores in Melbourne Beach and they want to keep it that way.
They said a large convenience-type store could put an entire street's worth of mom-and-pop shops out of business.
"They sell clothes, food, everything. Everyone here on the strip would be affected if they're allowed to come in," said Bruce Black who is against Walgreens.
Walgreens is asking for a variance to the town's zoning ordinance. It will be discussed in a public hearing Jan. 17.
