Many residents living in a gated community in Osceola County have gotten so frustrated with the lack of security, that they are leaving.
Members of the gated Amber Point community said their neighborhood was not really gated at all. They said the entrances have been left open around the clock, and crime has coming into their neighborhood.
Residents said their pool has been vandalized a number of times, and there was even an attempted break-in.
"It does worry me," said Francisco Lucero, whose house was broken into about a week ago. "I have two kids. I have a family, so I don't know what the situation is here."
"We want to feel secure," said Ray Mercado, an upset homeowner, "We have a gated community, and that's what it's all about -- paying the money and the association fee to feel secure. I don't feel secure at this time."
News 13 contacted KB Homes, the company who owns the community. Spokeswoman Cara Kane told News 13 that while she was not aware of any of the incidents, the open gate policy was standard when construction is still going on and homes are being sold.
Kane said the gates would remain open until the community is complete, but added that security is a priority, and she would look into other safety measures.
