No Water Fountains At Stadium

University of Central Florida officials admitted Monday the new football stadium does not meet a building code instituted in 2004, and that is why there weren't any drinking fountains for Saturday's debut.

At least 17 people were transported and 60 others treated for heat and dehydration problems at Saturday's game. Temperatures soared into the 90s, and water was in short supply.

Thousand fans paid $3 each for a bottle of water because there are no water fountains in at Bright House Stadium.

UCF Vice President Al Harms admitted the venue was built  according to an outdated building code.

"Our building was built to a 2001 building code,” Harms said. “We did research and the 2004 code says we should have 23 to 24 water fountains."

Now engineers are conducting an analysis to consider the possibility of installing the required two dozen water fountains.

Students at the game noticed the lack of water.

The university wants to prevent medical emergencies. On Saturday, at least 60 people were treated for heat and dehydration problems.

At the next game, the university will triple the amount of water on hand to 90,000 bottles and hand out one bottle to every ticket holder.

There is no timeline as when the analysis will be done or when water fountains will be installed.

If fans want more water after receiving their one free bottle, they will have to pay for it.

UCF also said the $3 per bottle price will not be lowered.
