Additional Information

The Orange County Sheriff's Office is going green.

It has been selected as the first agency to design a "green" building in Central Florida by the U.S. Green Building Council's Legacy Project.

The facility will be built on Lake Underhill near Rouse Road.

Green buildings are more energy efficient, but some say the benefits go beyond that.

"We're seeing more evidence of everyday is that productivity increases from individuals that work in green buildings. The most expensive items every company has on their balance sheets is employees, so if you can maximize the productivity from that it makes green buildings pay off," said a representative of the USGBC.

Officials say next year they hope to branch out the green building project to other counties in Central Florida.
