An elementary school crossing guard was struck by lightning during Friday afternoon's thunderstorms.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said the guard was getting out of his car in front of Brookshire Elementary School in Winter Park when he was struck in the hand.
     
He was taken to Florida Hospital for observation.
