Hundreds of unused FEMA trailers still waiting for Hurricane Katrina victims will go to Native Americans throughout the country.

Thousands of trailers have been sitting in Arkansas and Texas for the last couple of years. They were originally intended for Katrina victims, but FEMA said it could not distribute the trailers because they could not be placed in flood plains.

Last year South Dakota Sen. Tim Johnson pushed through legislation that allowed FEMA to sell or donate the trailers.

Johnson said many Native Americans are struggling with inadequate housing. An estimated 90,000 Native American families are homeless or under housed.
