An apology from radio talk show host Big John has several African-American leaders taking notice.

On a recent program, Big John compared Daytona Beach City Commissioner Dwayne Taylor to a monkey.  John says he was unaware of the history of the slur, or that anyone would consider it racist.

According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, many in the black community are satisfied with Big John's reconciliation.

Speaking to the News-Journal, President of Bethune Cookman University Trudie Kibbe-Reed said, "My concern was only the use of the term 'monkey' historically. I do believe he got it."

Rev. Ronald Durham, president of the Daytona Beach Black Clergy Alliance, told the newspaper, "It seems to be what the entire African-American community has hoped would happen, that there would be a way we could reach across the bridge of division."
