Two Hospitalized After Retirement Home Fire
Tuesday, May 19, 2009 9:23:16 PM
Two people had to go to the hospital and more than 100 others were forced to evacuate after a fire at a retirement home in DeLand.
Firefighters say the fire began when a mattress caught fire at the Hugh Ash Manor on
Woodland Boulevard.
A sprinkler system did go off in the seven story building. That helped put out the fire, but caused water damage to several units.
One of those hospitalized suffered smoke inhalation in the fire. The second was heaving heart troubles.
The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
