Orlando Police announce a new crackdown on crime Monday. This time, the target is five areas known for trouble.

Operation: All Hands on Deck will focus on Parramore, Mercy Drive, Kirkman Road, Washington Shores, Rosemont, and a part of Semoran Boulevard near S.R. 408.

For the next 30 days, 88 officers who normally sit behind a desk or in an office will spend their days out patrolling the high crime zones.

It's just the latest effort to reduce the city's high crime rate and record murder rate.

Police say it doesn't mean the other initiatives aren't working, but that they're responding to how criminals operate.

"The bad guys do the same thing out there,” operation coordinator Capt. Jeff O’Dell said. “They see us changing our tactics and they change the way they do business."

After a month, police say they will reassess the effort and decide on what the next step should be.
