There are major changes are underway for a local company known worldwide for its sun care products.

Hawaiian Tropic founder Ron Rice has sold the company to Playtex Products for $108 million.

Playtex produces the Banana Boat brand of sunscreen.

The company is based in Ormond Beach, and there's no word yet on what will happen to its worldwide 500 employees.

Rice started Hawaiian Tropic in 1969. He says he will still stay active within the organization, running its Miss Hawaiian Tropic International pageants.

He says he sold the company for his 16-year-old daughter.
"I have a daughter,” Rice said. “She's my life. It was time to clean it up and make it super for her."

On a side note, Rice says that his family has made history in the business world in the past. His grandfather owned sheep herds and gold mines with Buffalo Bill Cody out west.  He says he's looking forward to his new career venture.
