The Catholic Church of Florida is working with environmentalists to combat global warming.
Leaders from both communities, along with relief fund organizers, met in Orlando Friday for the Florida Catholic Conference. Church and state leaders said that by working closely together, they can successfully tackle the issue of climate change.
"What we want to do is highlight the moral concerns about the climate change," said executive director of Catholic Coalition of Climate Change Dan Misleh.
"It’s important to bring faith voices to this issue,” said Susan Glickman, a consultant to the National Defense Counsel. “Global warming is quite possibly the most important issue of our time."
Friday's conference was the first time Catholic Church leaders in Florida met to discuss environmental issues. They also discussed how to improve post-disaster relief programs for the poor.
