A Citrus County man, who was inspired by the death of Jessica Lunsford, is raising money and bringing awareness to child advocacy issues by running across the country.

Tom Bassano said he didn't know Jessica Lunsford, 9, who was kidnapped and murdered two years ago. But he has a daughter the same age, and wanted to do something.

Starting Feb. 29, he'll run from California to Florida.

"What I want out of this run is for everybody to have one good collective scream to say enough is enough. Let's start protecting these children better," said Bassano.

A longtime runner, Bassano has increased his training by running 20 miles after work, and 30 to 40 miles on weekends. He plans to run 40 miles a day, and complete the trip from Santa Monica to Daytona Beach in 90 days.
