A non-detonated bomb was found around noon Tuesday in the backyard of a home near an old World War II bombing range, the Orlando Police Department said.

The Air Force and the Orlando Fire Department determined that the device was safe and detonated it without incident.

The discovery of the bomb prompted police to evacuate 151 children at Primrose Daycare in the Warwick Shore Crossing area, near Lee Vista Boulevard.

Nearby restaurants, including Quizono’s and Planet Smoothie, were also evacuated.

The evacuation perimeter set up by OPD, extended 1,000 feet from where the bomb was found. There was no word on when the evacuated residents will be allowed to return.

The Publix Super Market in the area hosted the evacuated children, and provided them with water and other needs.

Parents who picked up their children expressed alarm at the situation.

In the summer, a series of old unexploded bombs were found on the Pine Castle Bombing Range near Odyssey Middle School.

The bomb was found because the Lennar Homes development was conducting its own investigation to see whether or not there are bombs in this subdivision.
