Thousands of baby green sea turtles are headed back out to sea Friday with a little help.

The washbacks, as they're called, were rescued from the rough surf over the last few weeks.

The little guys weren't able to make it past the rough surf that beat down on the Central Florida coast.

Thursday morning nearly 3,000 of the hatchlings were loaded on a boat and taken about 50 miles out to sea and released.

More than 5,000 baby sea turtles have washed ashore since Sept. 29 -- a record number.

Thursday morning aroudn 30 more hatchlings were found, which delayed the opening of the beaches by about 30 minutes.
