Law enforcement agencies across Florida are cracking down on people who speed away from police on high-performance motorcycles.
Many of these motorcycles can go faster than a police car.
So instead of chasing them down authorities get close enough to see the license plate, they track the offender down and take away his or her wheels.
In the next 30 days, Florida Highway Patrol and police departments in South Florida will form a new task force to crack down on bikers who refuse to stop.
FHP is also lobbying state legislators to increase the size of motorcycle license plates so they are more visible.
Motorcycle related deaths like this one that happened last year during Biketoberfest in Daytona Beach have nearly double across the state since 2000. That year there were 227 deaths. In 2005, there were 441.
During that time motorcycle crashes have risen from just under 6000 to a little more than 8000.
