Jury Selection Begins Today In Garrett Trial
A judge has ordered five autistic students allegedly abused by their teacher to take the stand once the trial begins.
Kathleen Garrett was arrested back in 2004. Prosecutors say she locked autistic students in closets and physically abused others. The alleged abuse happened between 2001 and 2004 at South Seminole Middle School.
Prosecutors had offered a plea deal that carried an eight year probation sentence, but Garrett's lawyers rejected that deal. Garrett now faces up to 75 years in prison if convicted.
Testimony in the case is expected to begin Wednesday.
