NEW PORT RICHEY -- A family got a shocking surprise when they found an 8-foot snake in their new home.
Robert Moore and Karen Garton said that while they were cleaning out their new house, they uncovered a 40 pound boa constrictor.
The snake had been left in a box at the home without any food or water.
After finding other signs of snakes inside the home, the couple said they think the previous homeowner left the boa constrictor behind.
"We started joking about it, until I found the 6-foot snake skin draped across one of the windows, traipsing through the house on a rake, and I thought, 'Oh my God!," Garton said
The snake was sick, suffering from a mouth sore and infection, but trappers think it will be OK with some food and medicine.
