Flu Sends Home 16 Of 23 Students In 4th Grade Class
Tuesday, September 29, 2009 5:41:27 AM
DELAND -- Twelve out of 23 students in a Woodward Avenue Elementary School fourth grade class reported absent Monday and four more students and their teacher were sent home with flu-like symptoms.
One of those absent was confirmed as having swine flu.
A Volusia County Schools representative said, so far, absentee rates at other schools are in the normal range.
Letters were sent home with every Woodward Avenue student Monday, and those letters were followed up with a phone call to parents.
The school is taking precautions by performing extra cleaning on surfaces and areas that have frequent hand contact, such as desks and door knobs.
Any child with flu-like symptoms is asked to stay home until they get better, plus three more days to make sure they are symptom-free.

Are schools doing enough to keep kids safe from swine flu?
