For the next several days experts from around the country even the world are right here in Orlando to learn the latest in bariatric durgery -- specifically the Lap Band Procedure.
That procedure changed one man's life and health for the better.
Ed Schneider went from weighing 316 pounds in January to only 225 pounds today because of a gastric lap band procedure performed by Dr. Keith Kim at Florida Hospital Celebration Health.
Following his surgery, Ed's life changed dramatically - his energy level is up, he doesn't need a seat belt extension anymore and he can walk for more than 10 minutes without having to sit down!
Ed no longer has diabetes, a disease he lived with for years prior to his surgery. It happened just two weeks after his surgery.
"There's nothing I can't do," Schneider said. "it's a life changing experience for the positive."
"It's a restrictive procedure that changes the stomach to the size of an egg," Dr. Kim said.
Imagine the size of an egg so that way since your stomach is smaller. You can have a much smaller meal and be satisfied.
The disease of obesity has been growing at an alarming rate over the last several decades and is now believed to affect more than 1.5 billion people worldwide.
In addition, nearly 28 percent of greater Orlando residents say they are obese.
