Cherie Hammond is used to doing difficult types of handstands. For ten years, she trained as a gymnast. Now, she is competing in the water.

"The flips and the twists are all the same. Like, the hurdles are different and you go to hold your arms a little longer, the take offs are really the only thing that's different," diver Cherie Hammond said.

“The conversion to diving is flip of the coin for a gymnast. They either can do it or they can't," Team Orlando Diving head coach Jay LeRew said.

Hammond definitely can. She just started diving about a year and a half ago. Now, she is one of seven divers from Team Orlando Diving heading to the British Elite Nationals. That is an International diving competition, taking place next week in England.

"It'll give our kids a chance to get in a very high caliber International Competition," LeRew said.

LeRew says it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to make it this far. These swimmers train twice a day, year round, in the pool.

"Of course their practice doesn't end here in the pool. All of these divers spend hours a day in the gym doing everything from cardio to strength training.” LeRew said.

"I made up my own abs workout at my house and I wake up at like 5:30 a.m. to do them," Diver Sydney Couch said.

"I just do a lot of cardio. I workout 45-minutes on the elliptical, 45-minutes every day running, stretching." Diver Thea Vock said.

Vock competed in the Junior World Competition last summer.

Like the rest of her teammates, she looks forward to the British Elite Nationals and hopes to make it to the Olympics.
