Lisa Bell, Know Your Numbers
With summer upon us, we would all like to have a slim and trim waist, but what you may not know is that your waist size can be a good indicator of heart health too.
Your waist to hip size ratio should be 1 for men, and .8 for women.
Doctors have discovered that the area where you carry your extra weight can predict whether you're at significant risk for heart disease. The more you tend to put on in your tummy, the more you are at risk.
To calculate your waist-to-hip ratio, first measure your waist between your ribcage and hip bones.
Next, measure your hips around your rear.
Divide your waist measurement by your hip measurement.
The resulting ratio should be 1 for men, and .8 for women.
