Our crew started the morning with a goodwill gesture for the kayakers bymaking the most important part of breakfast—the coffee. It didn’t go so good. After a recovery, we headed out to get our story.
Ahhh, putting on makeup on a boat is a lot like when my brothers used to drive me to school, purposely trying to make me smudge my face. We got our kayakers crossing Cypress Lake before they split up – one group going down the predetermined route, C36, and the other, down a creek to the Dead River. When one group had trouble finding the creek, our awesome guide Vince Matero from SFWMD called an officer from the Florida Fish and Wildlife and he came to their navigational rescue.
He also took our photographer Jeff on board. That left Josh, our sound guy, to shoot video at our location with the back-up camera. Lucky for us, because we had our first baby gator sighting. Look at the size of those teeth. Be careful Josh!
We stopped at the edge of the canal to wait for the Dead River kayak group. A local resident, Jerry C. Remmey, Jr., joined us, and we also got a picture of officer on the air boat too, Matt Ervin. He and Vince saved the day!
On the way into to Camp Mack, we saw our first bog gator sunning himself. It was awesome. A little ways down we saw a family, and their little girl caught a huge mud fish on her Barbie fishing rod. This trip is great!
Our sound guy Josh found a dead fish with a bite out of it, so of course we had to make that picture happen too. Finally, to camp and editing- the hardest part of the trip is always last! I can’t say enough how kind everyone has been to us- like a real community created on the water. See everyone tomorrow!
