Up early and with a new friend at base camp – a snapping turtle! We took off onto Lake Toho and spent our time searching for wildlife, following the kayakers and documenting invasive species.
And the kicker – Osceola County Parks and Recreation had a fish fry for us when we got to Southport Park, near Poinciana. There were frog legs and gator bites and grits. Felt like home for me!
After this, the accommodations get a lot more primitive. I set up my tent almost completely on my own this time. Some of the kayakers threw a fake rat on the edge of my tent. I guess I am being initiated. I squealed like a girl, and to think we are facing much more formidable creatures down the river. Jeff, our photographer, has the last job of the night – editing the final piece after hours of shooting video.
Tomorrow is a day of canals and a lock and Cypress river. I’ll take more pictures tomorrow.
